Formats accepted: VHS, VHS-C, MiniDV, HDV, DVDs, loose printed photos, 35mm mounted slides and 35mm negatives. Fragile photos, albums and awkward items are quoted separately. Audio cassette, cine film, APS, 110, 126 and medium format film aren’t part of the service at the moment.
Photos, slides and negatives

Printed photo and 35mm film scanning

Loose printed photos are scanned in batches and supplied as JPEG files, suitable for viewing, sharing, printing and family backup. Mounted slides and 35mm negatives are scanned using dedicated film scanning equipment for better detail than a basic flatbed scan.

Fragile, curled, sticky, torn, mounted or album-bound photos need slower hand scanning and are quoted separately. Very old, faded, scratched or dusty film may still show signs of age.

Customer feedback

What local customers have said

It was so lovely to see the videos I've not seen in years. Highly recommend him to anyone who's thinking of getting their tapes done.

Hollie, Marple

I looked into sending my tapes away recently but didn't want to post them. The memories are too precious to risk losing, so I was so happy to find the service right here in Marple.

Karen, Marple

My tape has so many memories of my husband’s family and of us as young children. I can’t wait to show everyone and give them a giggle.

Janet, Marple

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I get started?

Just send a photo of your tapes, DVDs, photos, slides or negatives on WhatsApp and I’ll confirm everything.

What video formats do you accept?

VHS, VHS-C, MiniDV, HDV and DVD. If you are not sure what you have, send a photo and I’ll confirm.

What if I do not know what format I have?

Send a photo or a quick message and I will identify it.

Do I need to post anything?

No. Everything is handled locally.

What if a tape is damaged or difficult to play?

I will explain clearly before going ahead.

How much does it cost?

Video tapes and DVDs are £10 each. Loose photo scanning starts at £40 for up to 100 photos. 35mm slide and negative scanning starts at £15 for up to 30 images.

What format will I receive?

Video is usually supplied as MP4 files. Photos, slides and negatives are usually supplied as JPEG files. Other formats can be discussed if needed.

Do I get the original tapes back?

Yes. Your original tapes, DVDs, photos, slides and negatives are returned to you.

Can you put everything on a USB stick?

Yes. A USB copy is available for £10. A download link is included as standard.

Can you scan printed photos?

Yes. Loose printed photos can be scanned in batches. Photos need to be loose, reasonably clean and suitable for careful auto-feed scanning.

Can you scan photo albums?

Yes, but albums and fragile items are slower than loose photo scanning and are quoted separately. Loose photos are the most cost-effective option.

Can you restore damaged images?

Basic automatic correction is included where appropriate. Detailed manual restoration is available separately from £5 per image.

Do you keep copies?

Files are kept temporarily after completion so you have time to download and check them. After that, they are deleted as part of routine housekeeping.

What if a tape is blank or damaged?

If a tape appears blank, damaged or unreadable, I’ll let you know. Very damaged or mouldy tapes may not be suitable for conversion.

What if my film is dusty, scratched or faded?

I’ll handle it carefully and use suitable scanning settings where possible, but very old, scratched, mouldy or faded film may still show signs of age. Kodachrome colour correction can vary depending on age and condition.
